Today I went to “Kushiage Sakkuru Konosakiya” in Fukuyama on my way home from work.
How is everyone doing these days as I’ve become more familiar with the Fukuyama Yoidore community?
In front of the station, there are chain izakayas, karaoke places and other establishments that young people frequent, but there are also several independent bars and low-key restaurants.
If you walk a little further south, there is an area packed with so-called “restaurants that provide entertainment”, but having been a Yoidore for over 40 years, I intuitively feel that it’s best not to go to that area…
A standing bar in front of the station is perfect for a slacker Drunk Uncle like me…
I decided to go to “Fukuyama Sakkuru”, a skewered food restaurant that caught my eye in front of Fukuyama Station. I’m not a big fan of fried food to begin with, but it was the only place that was open at that time of day.
According to the sign outside, they have a “Great Value Choinomi Set! 1,000 yen!!” so I thought I’d use that to get a “quick” start… Anyway, I went inside.
I was shown to the back of the counter. The inside of the store was packed with young people in their 20s. It was quite busy considering it was a Saturday evening.
The interior of the store looks like this. I entered the store just after 5pm, and discovered a big mistake. I realized that the “Great Value Choinomi Set! 1,000 yen!!” I was looking for was only available until 4pm…
My enthusiasm was thwarted. It’s true that it’s clearly written on the sign, so I’m not going to complain, but can’t you just take down the sign after the time is up…? (Old man)
In my despair, I decided to order a nutritious adult drink. I ordered the Japanese sake “Michisakari” (Tajimi).
As for food, I didn’t want to think about it, so I decided to just go with the “Sakkuru 5 kushiage set”.
The drink arrives. Gulp! Just regular sake. Just normal good.
I drink the same thing wherever I go, so it doesn’t feel huge difference
I’m looking for a drink that will really move me, but I haven’t come across anything like that lately…
I wait for a while while drinking, but the “Sakkuru 5 kushiage set” takes a long time to arrive… Well, it’s fried food, and they’re doing well, so I guess they’re busy, I think, but no matter how much I wait, it never comes.
In the end, the “Sakkuru 5 kushiage set” is delivered to the gentleman next to me, who explains that he didn’t order it.
I was a little tired from work today, so I was clicking my tongue in my mind, but I didn’t have the energy to say, “That’s mine,” so I just watched, and eventually it was passed around to me.

It’s freshly fried so it’s piping hot, and since there’s probably no difference in taste between skewers, I’ll gulp down the heat with some sake! To wash it down for now.

In the first place, it was my mistake to go into a kushiage restaurant when I wasn’t even hungry. It was too heavy for an old man like me…
Don’t get me wrong, “Kushiage Sakkuru Konosakiya” was a good place to eat and drink with friends (even though I didn’t have any friends). If you come to Fukuyama, please drop by.
