This bar is run by a liquor store founded in 1914. It’s not a very old establishment, but it’s relaxing. I guess it’s a haven for Drunk Uncle who abandoned his hometown.
Hi, it’s “Drunk Uncle”!
Today I went to “Musashiya Saketen” in Oimachi on my way home from work.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Oimachi. The JR Keihin Tohoku Line, Tokyu Oimachi Line, and Rinkai Line all intersect here, making it a town where you can travel freely in the direction of Shinagawa and Tokyo, Jiyugaoka and Futako Tamagawa, Shibuya and Shinjuku, and even Odaiba and Shinkiba.
The Rinkai Line is especially convenient because it connects to the Saikyo Line and Kawagoe Line. For example, you may not be impressed by the kura-zukuri streetscape of Kawagoe in the morning, so you may stop for a drink at Izumiya in Omiya in the afternoon, and then gulp down some sake at Maruken Suisan in Akabane! You may play with homeless people in Ikebukuro, get ripped off in Shinjuku, and be hunted by thugs in Shibuya, but you may not even look at the illuminations at Ebisu Garden Place. After watching the 2.5-dimensional play at the Galaxy Theater in Tennozu Isle, you may move to Odaiba to enjoy the night view.Once you’ve created a good atmosphere where your girlfriend feels like “I don’t want to go home today💛”, you can end up the day by heading back to Oimachi and showering yourself with second-class sake. You can have such a great date all in one day, on one route.
Well, it’s been a while since I last visited Oimachi. The town has commercial facilities, electronics retailers, business hotels, shopping streets, “the King of Baths”(a public bath), funeral parlours, and drinking establishments for Drunk Uncle. It’s a town that has it all, and it’s truly a 360° town that caters to Drunk Uncle from the cradle to the grave, so you can rest assured.
So, why don’t we take a walk and see if this Hisabisa town will give us a warm welcome?

Speaking of Oimachi, it’s this dirty (and I mean that as a compliment) street, Higashikoji Restaurant Street, right? This alley is packed with standing bars, local Chinese restaurants, cheap eateries, and snack bars. The famous Western restaurant “Bulldog” was also located here, but it burned down in a fire and has since relocated. There’s the standing bar “Vampire”, the always crowded local Chinese restaurant “Eiraku”, the amazing “Nikuno Maekawa” restaurant, and many more, so you won’t get bored even if you spend the whole day here…
Although each store should be careful about hygiene, there are still some “issues”, so if you’re the kind of girl who thinks, “I have to go to a restaurant that’s like a sterile room💛,” why don’t you turn back here and head straight to your favorite Odaiba area? That will make both of you happier…
Once you’re ready, head through the restaurant district. One of the joys is seeing the unique scenery of back alleys, such as mysterious puddles even when it’s not raining, traces of vomit, the smell of toilets left open, and messy wiring running down the walls that resembles the inside of a drunkard’s brain.
Today I’m going to “Musashiya Liquor Store” which is at the end of this back alley. Oh, by the way, you can get there from the main street without having to go through the “dirty place”, so if you like cleanliness, please use that way.

And so, I arrived at today’s Musashi-ya Liquor Store. It is a 5-6 minute walk from Oimachi Station, on the first floor of a stylish apartment building. The owner originally owned land around here and ran a liquor store in the area for a long time. When he rebuilt his old store, he built an apartment building at the same time, and is now living off the passive income from rent? Sorry for my wild guess.
The corner bar is very clean and welcoming. I recommend it to junior and senior high school students who are new to standing bars, and even to middle-aged and elderly people. It seems that the regulars of Oimachi Drunkers haven’t been there yet, so I entered the bar with my shoulders held high.

Before that, let’s just look at the outside sign. Well, as usual, the banner shows signs of hard work. The base is no longer clear.

This is what the inside of the store looks like. They also sell cigarettes, so smoke as much as you like and puke as much as you like.
There’s no bad person among those who like cigarettes, alcohol, and gambling… If there’s a drink you want in the fridge in front of you, you take a can and pay at the register. The landlady will prepare drinks like Hoppy, which are tricky to make, so just bow and ask… Interaction between people is important, so I’ll order a Hoppy here.
As we pay each time, I chat a little with the proprietress. I heard that this liquor store was founded in 1914 (Taisho 3), and started serving alcohol in 1952 (Showa 27). The proprietress is the third generation owner, and it’s common for the third generation to be the best, whether it’s the shogunate, the shogun, or EXILE, so in that sense, Musashi-ya Liquor Store seems to be in its heyday now. The proprietress is starting to look like an empress… Apparently, when the store first opened, this area had an idyllic atmosphere, with nothing around but lush grasslands and horses roaming about. Times are changing…

The Empress made me a drink for adults. I would have preferred the home-use Hoppy 330 or the commercial Hoppy… the taste is the same though. The shochu is so smooth and full that if you pour it normally, you can tell, right? It’ll just spill all over the table… In that case, pour it from above to avoid spilling. No peeing allowed, you know?
Gulp! It tastes good. Hoppy is always good.
Now that we’ve quenched our thirst, it’s time to check out the store, right?

There are things like otsumami menu in various places, so check them out. They are mainly dried foods, so there are no “natto omelette”, “Sashimi, three fishes”, “bagna cauda” or anything like that.

Looking at the wall, I see an article sponsored by Takara at the famous restaurant “Kakuuchi”. You haven’t forgotten that it was also at “Tachinomiya Kihei”, have you? Let me enjoy the smile of the hostess…

I don’t need otsumami, so today I’ll take care of myself and have “Orni rare delicacy appetizer shijimi *with flower seeds” “Health is the key.” Eat sunflower seeds? I feel like Hamtaro…
Washing down some sunflower seeds with Hoppy is a great way to relax…
The number of regulars is increasing, and as they no longer have a place to stay, they’re fleeing the bar.
It’s the kind of refreshing corner bar I’d want to drop by often if it was in my local area.
Isn’t there a place where you can get scolded and insulted by a quirky proprietress, but then be “patted on the head” in the end? Let’s go back home…
