A long-established bar in Kawasaki, the most dangerous “thug town”. This place is…pretty good. You can’t wash away human kindness with alcohol. You like bars like this, don’t you? If you drink Hoppy first thing in the morning, you’re guaranteed to die. I’m not saying anything bad, but if you are “nerd boy”you should only go for meals…
Hi, it’s “Drunk Uncle”!
Today I went to “Marudai Hall Honten” in Kawasaki on my way home from work.
Kawasaki… the most dangerous and terrifying “thug town.” Good kids are not allowed here, but…it’s a town you can’t avoid if you want to become an “adult.” The area around the west exit where Lazona Kawasaki is located is okay, but the east exit on the sea side and industrial area side is pretty tense… The town is swarming with thugs and thugs (their trademark is their Galfy setup), homeless people lying around yelling “things I can’t understand” and it’s a den of dangerous people, so stay away if you’re a nerd or a loser!
On “this side” of Kawasaki, there are long-established bars, rip-off bars, public gambling and illegal slot machines at the racetrack and bicycle racing track, and both surface and underground sex trades – this town is a place where the “front” and the “back” coexist… I’ll be digging into the deeper drinking establishments in this area, so just sit back and wait for me, dude.
Today, I’ll start by getting drunk at the long-established bar “Marudai Hall Honten” near the station…Founded in 1936 (Showa 11), this might just be recognized as a “World Heritage Bar for Drunk Uncle”… By the way, although it’s the “honten(main branch)”, it doesn’t seem to have any “branches,” so keep that in mind. Let’s go in without further ado…

Before that, check the exterior, right? It looks good, but the curtain is white because it touches customers… Cash only, well, that can’t be helped. Oh… and it’s going to be featured on NHK’s “Document 72 Hours”? This show is interesting, so check it out… As an aside, the combo of “Refreshing Nature 100 Scenes” from 7:45 on Sunday mornings on NHK and “Small Trips” from 8:00 is the best, so be sure to watch it! The Drunk Uncle has an early morning.

The inside of the store is newer and cleaner, and you can feel the story of how they moved here after the redevelopment. There are non-smoking and smoking seats, so if you like smoking, sit in the smoking seats, and if you like secondhand smoke, sit in the non-smoking seats. There are no bad people who like smoking, gambling, or drinking…
And… have you seen the inside of the store? There’s an “instant hot sake maker”… This looks like something I can enjoy in the morning.
First of all, of course, a Shiro Hoppy. You can’t go wrong with this first thing in the morning… Once you order it, you’re guaranteed to ascend to heaven, right?

Here it is, the classic adult drink that I’ve loved since my childhood, “Shiro Hoppy”. The commercial returnable bottle is so cool no matter how many times I see it. The perfect form and design of it is like a rhinoceros beetle, right? If I have this, I’ll be in a good mood… Gulp! It doesn’t taste good first thing in the morning…

Next, check out the snacks, or Mamitsu. There are a lot of them hanging on the wall… it’s exciting! Oh, don’t overlook the blackboard, either? There are seasonal Mamitsu there… Here, I guess it’s potato salad and curry toppings (atama).

Oh, the chopsticks… they’re in a cool container, thank you. The potato salad and curry ingredients have arrived. The potato salad… there are two servings, which is a bit unexpected. The curry is just curry, nothing more, nothing less, but it’s delicious.
Gulp! I don’t know if it goes well with Hoppy, but it’s delicious. I haven’t had breakfast yet, so I accidentally ordered the omelet rice that the other customers were eating and the octopus tempura that caught my eye…

Basically, the portions are quite large… gulp! It goes well with alcohol… Each Mamitsu served has a sense of stability, a solid feel. Is this the weight of history that a neo-Showa retro style bar can’t bring out even if they want to… (I don’t know though).
Once the Drunk Uncle has finished his breakfast, it’s time to pay and leave the bar. I don’t even feel any sense of guilt anymore…
After enjoying the Kawasaki “Ginryugai Zoo” and hitting the jackpot at the Kawasaki horse races, I’ll go to a “public bath” in the Horinouchi area and enjoy this Drunk Uncle’s day off to the fullest. Well then…!
