An oden restaurant in Akabane, a mecca for daytime drinking. The specialty “dashiwari” is amazing, with a postwar black market feel… After eating “Nerimon”, it’s time to head out into the city…

Hi, it’s “Drunk Uncle”!

Today I went to “Maruken Suisan” in Akabane on my way home from work.

Akabane, or “Red Wing” in the Reiwa style, is a mecca for daytime drinking and cheap drinking located in the north of Tokyo. This town has the same smell as Kamata on the other side of Tokyo, and what they have in common is that there are “shikotama” places where you can drink from the morning, and local drunken and alcoholic gentlemen and ladies roam the streets…

According to urban planning, this area will also be redeveloped in the future, and a “beautiful Akabane” will be created. The vestiges of the Showa era are hanging by a thread, so if you’re going to go, you’d better go early…

There’s a drinking district like this in the northern area, near the east exit of Akabane Station. “1st Street Silk Road” has an arcade, so it’s easy to walk around even in the rain or snow. Touts start calling out to you from the afternoon, so this socially awkward old man puts on headphones and pretends not to hear them…

The chances of thugs and thugs walking around are low, but the chances of touts are quite high. There are signs that say “Beware of touts,” right? Well, aside from that, it’s not a bad town, and there are some good drinking establishments, so why not go and check it out?

Today’s restaurant is “Maruken Suisan.” This is a long-established store that produces and sells oden ingredients, and also serves food and drinks standing up. As the store name suggests, they sell “high-end oden ingredients.” Well, they are “high-end,” but the prices are reasonable for the average person, so don’t be intimidated; don’t be scared, right? By the way, there is also a store called “Hirasawa Kamaboko Oji Ekimae Store” at Oji Station, two stations away, but that store is more of a “drinking” store, so if you like it, check it out too. The “Kita Ward Oden Front” is expanding…What should I do…?

This shop is a serious oden restaurant… They’ve got some great “ingredients”… They say that they’ve been serving handmade flavors in Akabane for over 60 years. The fish paste products are carefully made by hand, from butchering each fish to shaping them.” If this is for real, that’s amazing. Check out the ingredients menu.

Anyway, today they have the standing bar-only “Oden Set” – 4 types of oden (can’t choose) + drink, right? They don’t have Hoppy, of course… And the adult drink is “Marushin Masamune” (the original Akabane local sake)… This is already heavenly…

Four types of oden and sake have arrived… Is it okay, I’ve done it… Gulp gulp! This is crazy… It’s delicious & delicious, love & pop. Hmm, I don’t know what kind of ingredients/toppings are in it, but it’s delicious… I’ll keep the eggs, but this…

It’s a blast… (see photo). It’s stained from the outside, but I’ll make it stained from the inside too…
Paired with sake, it’s delicious after all. I still have some “Marushin Masamune” sake left… (smiles).

Looking at the manufacturing process around here, doesn’t it make you want to add a little oden? From here on, I’ll go with ala carte…? Wiener rolls, daikon radish, and deep-fried stamina meat…

Also, the sign that says “No treating or being treated – Manager Maruken” is a great way to avoid any trouble… and then here comes the “How to dilute the dashi” sign, we have no choice but to do this…

Extra oden, nice. If you go to the cashier and pay 50 yen, they’ll pour “dashi” into the leftover ponshu… Slurp! This is the best…

The base is done nicely, but when I look at the horizontal lines, I feel like something is calling me from beyond them…
“Red Wing” is pretty deep, so maybe I should go into that area…
“Well… We’re going to break up!” (by Wanibuchi from “Bukkomino Taku”).
