A long-established popular restaurant that continues to offer nostalgic flavors in Kure.
I wonder if “just a meal” will be enough…

Hi, it’s “Drunk Uncle”!

Today I went to “Oshokuji no mise Kuwada(Kuwada Shokudo)” in Kure, Hiroshima on my way home from work.

It seems that Kure has a unique culture of Taishu Syokudo (old school restaurants), including “Morita Shokudo”.
Kuwada Shokudo, a restaurant located about a 5-minute walk from Kure Station, is a representative of Kure’s Taishu Shokudo restaurant culture.

It’s a cafeteria, so of course the main focus is on the food, and although it’s different from a bar, it has an interesting appearance, so I decided to enter. Will I be able to finish with “just a meal”…or will I get hooked on something deeper?

The inside of the restaurant is spacious. The customer base is diverse, including locals from the neighborhood and construction workers. You can clearly feel that it is deeply rooted in the local area.

The menu is of course similar to The Shokudo, including rice and noodles. The style is to order rice and miso soup, and pick up side dishes from the refrigerated display case. There is also a microwave in the store, so you can warm up your own food at Kwada Shokudo. This restaurant has a similar style to the famous “Meshi-no-Handaya” in Sendai City.

There seems to be an alcohol menu, so I almost order it by mistake, but since it’s a weekday afternoon, and most importantly, I’m still at work, I use my rationality to hold back. They recommend udon on the menu, so perhaps this is a popular menu item… Naturally, it must be Kure’s specialty, “hoso udon(thin udon)”.
However, I ordered “oyako-don” and an eggplant dish (no alcohol this time).

“Morita Shokudo” in front of Kure Station probably didn’t have rice bowl dishes, and I got the impression that they had a good selection of alcohol.
“Kuwada Shokudo” seems to have a lineup that mainly focuses on food.

Just delicious. Is this a nostalgic taste?
It’s a bit unsatisfactory for me who’s only interested in alcohol, but it can’t be helped.
It’s closed on Sundays and holidays, and it seems to be open until 9pm on Saturdays, so I’ll have no choice but to come at night next time.

I didn’t have any particular comments without alcohol, but it was a delicious restaurant.
