Hi, it’s “Drunk Uncle”!
Today I went to “Tachinomiya Kihei” in Ikebukuro on my way home from work.
Ikebukuro is the gateway between Saitama and Tokyo, a sacred place for the homeless, and one of Tokyo’s leading entertainment districts with a completely different face from the West Exit and East Exit. The west exit looks like a small Kabukicho+Chinatown, the security is one of the worst in Tokyo, and most of all, it smells like a city street…
The east exit has a more relaxed atmosphere and is lined with department stores, electronics retailers, restaurants, anime shops, and more. There is also the main store of Animate, and it seems to be a sacred place for anime and manga lovers.
What makes things even more complicated is the twisted phenomenon that Tobu Department Store is located at the west exit and Seibu Department Store is located at the east exit. The same problem that occurs at Nishinakajima Minamikata Station in Osaka, where the sense of direction is messed up, is also occurring here in Ikebukuro. When I think about complicated things, I feel like drinking alcohol. There is a bit of traffic jam of the sacred place, but this time we will head to today’s bar “Tachinomiya Kihei”, which is located near Minami-Ikebukuro Park, the holy place of drink lovers.
The interior is a converted liquor store warehouse, and all drinks are standing. It seems that it was originally run directly by Heikiya, a liquor wholesaler, but the master has since taken over the business. It’s a little clunky for a minimalist guy, but strangely it doesn’t feel unpleasant; in fact, it’s comfortable.
The master seems to be from Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata Prefecture, and as a Drunk Uncle from Tohoku, I feel close to him.
The snack menu includes a variety of oden, small side dishes, and canned foods, as well as dishes such as Yamagata Tamakon, which shows the master’s love for his hometown.
Unfortunately, the tamakon was sold out, so I ordered macaroni and beef tendon stew. Of course the sake is white hoppy. This combination may be the ultimate dream team, comparable to the 90’s Chicago Bulls trio (Jordan, Pippen, Rodman). Will it be able to withstand the triangle offense released by the master?
Hoppy is also placed in a heavy mug, giving it a heavy feel. 130% good.
It goes great with macaroni salad with a hint of black pepper, and beef tendon is also good. I also enjoy drinking.
