Hi, it’s “Drunk Uncle”!
Today I went to “Genzo Honten” in Hiroshima on my way home from work.
Like other metropolitan areas, Hiroshima Station has been engulfed in the waves of redevelopment and has turned into a different town before you know it… I’ve been to Hiroshima many times, but the changes have been so drastic that I can no longer even remember the station building from before. On the east side of Hiroshima Station, where remnants of the Showa era are congested, not in the “ekinishi” area, is today’s bar, “Genzo Honten”.
“Genzo” also has a store in “Aqua Hiroshima Center Street” in Motomachi, but this is the main store. “Aqua Hiroshima Center Street” is on the 7th floor of the shopping center, so it was a little difficult for me, a lazy old man, to get to. However, this store is on the street, so it’s easy to walk in, which is great.
The obligatory exterior check. The store itself is new… The curtain is nice. The font is nice, isn’t it? “Delicious, cheap and fast” is also good.
They open from 9:30 in the morning… I’m sure this is a place that stimulates the liver of all the Drunk Uncles in Hiroshima.
The set meals seem to be popular. I guess they have other things too. Shall I go in and try it out?
The restaurant is spacious and has several tables. I am shown to a table at the very back. There is a group of regulars who look a little arrogant, but I think I’ll just drink quietly here… I check the “adult beverage” menu.
There’s no Hoppy, I guess. I would have liked a Hoppy for my first drink, but I’ll be stingy and order a room temperature “Miwa Sakura Junmai” instead. Please, landlady.
Before the “Miwa Sakura Junmai” arrived, I checked out the interior. There was nothing particularly interesting, except for the “Fugu object”. Other than that, it was a very ordinary bar.
“Miwa Sakura Junmai” has arrived…. Gulp! It tastes like your average sake. Gulp! It’s nothing special, but it’s good. Next, I’ll have some foods.
The appetizer menu seems to have both meals and a la carte options. Hmm, the mantis shrimp was recommended and I was interested, but I think I’ll go for the “mori sashimi” today… The mantis shrimp is delicious, but the only downside is that it gets your hands a little dirty.
Gulp! I sip on some “ponshu” while waiting for the appetizers.
The sashimi platter arrives. Salmon, marinated mackerel, and two other items – all delicious. Gulp! I wash it down with some “Miwasakura Junmai”.
Somehow, I’m drinking more alcohol… In an instant, the “Miwasakura Junmai” is gone.
The next drink is… “Miwasakura Nigori Sake”, right…?
The “Nigori sake” settles to the bottom, so make sure to shake it well. The glass of “Suishin” is filled with Nigori sake… Gulp! This adult lactic acid drink goes well with sashimi. I’m getting pretty drunk… The waiter, whether he knows my state or not, asks, “Do you want some water?” Oh, okay, let’s have some.
The glass is on the bitter side. With some water as a chaser, it’s a triple attack of nigori sake, sashimi, and water.
Gurgle! Once I’d consumed all the lactic acid bacteria in the nigori sake, I paid and left the bar.
This is a long-established bar that serves hearty sake and great food. As it’s a long-established bar, I was expecting it to have a stronger flavor, but there were no stubborn master and the staff were not arrogant, and it was a very friendly bar even for first-time visitors.
……If someone is too kind to me, I feel a reaction in a different direction, and I start to want a stronger, more eccentric essence… It’s nice to be “surrounded by kindness,” but you can’t “live on kindness alone,” right?
Hmm, I guess I’ve become that “Drunker masochist” (in other words, a pervert) who can’t be satisfied unless something is “strong”… What on earth has happened to me? I might wander around the neighborhood to find out more about myself…
