Are you looking for a cool place in “Gotanda Hills”? Your usual place is good, but you need to try something new. If you smell the scent of the Showa era, you’ll feel like a proper Showa era Uncle! Don’t drink too much and sink into the Meguro River…
Hi, it’s “Drunk Uncle”!
Today I went to “Yakitori Momochan” in Gotanda on my way home from work.
Gotanda is great… friendly bars and crazy downtown areas coexist. The east exit is the most dangerous entertainment district, but the west exit is relatively safe. From the west exit of JR Gotanda Station, across the Meguro River, to Yamate-dori Street, there are many relatively peaceful drinking establishments and restaurants.
There are plenty of chain restaurants, independent establishments, and trendy drinking establishments under the Ikegami Line elevated tracks, but today, why not go to the River Light Building along the Meguro River, commonly known as Gotanda Hills?
This is a building with many snack bars, and many of the stores are so crowded with regulars that it’s a little scary at first glance… But still, if you’re going to be shy in a place like this, you should just go to “Torikizoku” from the start, and the only way to increase your “drinking level” is to find one and go in, because being a coward is out of the question, right?

Today I went to a completely new restaurant called “Yakitori Momochan.” I was quite nervous… What if it was a yakitori restaurant and it was packed with regulars?

Oops, I forgot to check out the exterior. The noren curtains and lanterns are nice. The signboard has a photo of the interior of the store, so it’s nice to be able to do some advance preparation… Is this a counter-centered store? “We offer complimentary fruit with chuhai” is a nice touch. After regaining my composure using the “sophrology” and “Lamaze” breathing techniques, shall I go inside?

Hoho… it looks good. It’s a small restaurant, so you need to be careful about where you place your luggage. In some places, it can hit the toilet door or the entrance door can’t be opened, so I’ll just have to bear it and follow the instructions of the chef and the regulars…

The menu is on the wall… I’ve already had Hoppy, so today I’ll drink “Gokai”, sake, and have it warm. I will order the “Omakase Yakitori Platter of Five (Flavor is also Omakase)”. In a place like this, I’ll order everything in one go…

I’ll keep an eye on the interior… There are lanterns inside the store, creating a festival atmosphere, and the cat-shaped noren curtains have a sticky feel to them, which is nice… I wait patiently for my adult beverage while listening to the conversation between the chef and the regulars.

You can take the shop card home with you, too. And here comes the alcohol…

Let’s gulp down “Gokai”… The taste of second-class sake is nice… By the way, the hot sake is made by adjusting the pot in the store, which I’ve never seen before, but it’s instructive. And here comes Yakitori. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture, but I’ll add that it tasted good and looked good too.

Drink one more shot of “Gokai”, gulp, gulp, it’s delicious, but I don’t know what to do with it anymore… I pay and leave the bar.
It certainly has an intimidating atmosphere, but once inside it all becomes easy… Just take that first step, in other words, a Suga Shikao-esque “let’s take just one more step forward” kind of feel?
Enough with the pointless talk, muhoho…The night in Gotanda isn’t over yet… I guess I’ll return to Higashi-Gotanda and cover the “last mile” before ascending to heaven…
P.S. By the way, while I was in Nishi-Gotanda, I also made a pilgrimage to the “infamous mansion” (the former site of Kaikikan) that became famous due to a fraudulent land scam in Gotanda. I’ll post this as an apology, although it’s a substitute for a photo of the yakitori. Details of the incident can be found here:
