A local Chinese restaurant in Maebashi with a strong flavor that gives off a “crazy” vibe just from its appearance… If you’re a nerd or geek, it’s safer to go to Kourakuen. Is heaven or hell on the other side of the door? If you try the “greasy” fried rice, you’re sure to feel bloated. The journey on the “Yoidre Silk Road” isn’t over yet.
Hi, it’s “Drunk Uncle”!
Today I went to “Tonko” in Maebashi on my way home from work.
Maebashi… After visiting a few places, I was still staggering like a newborn fawn. There are bars scattered all over Maebashi, so I’m tired of walking around. How are you all doing these days? I was thinking that it was about time for an oasis, and then I found the ramen shop “Dunhuang” – thank goodness… But it had a very distinctive appearance. I had to take a double look.
“Dunhuang”, an oasis city in northwest China… The romance of the Silk Road is incredible, isn’t it? For Showa kids, the “shining romantic estelle” is nostalgic. “Dunhuang” in Chinese… sounds like “Don Juan”, which is too similar to Drunk Uncle who calls himself “Don Juan of Michinoku”. A branching point on the Silk Road, either way it might be hell? Maybe Kome Kome Club will take a “romantic flight of Drunk Uncle”…

Dude, this is already a work of art. I could see a little bit of the inside, and the classic “Haruka Igawa” poster is what I like about this kind of store. I have no choice but to go in, right? Let’s open that heavy door…

There are no customers in the restaurant. But that’s ok. The “Haruka Igawa poster” has quite an impact, sitting in the “center” and looking like a portrait of a Central Asian dictator, right? Maybe the chef likes it… The restaurant is a mess. Let’s check out the menu.

A pretty cool menu. Prices have been revised across the board, but look closely at the top left of the menu, “Ramen Yashiki”… which basically means “Ramen House”, right? …Like the biker gangs of the Showa era, huh? You can really feel the spirit of the Joshu men here… On the back, on the back… is there a QR code beyond the “If you can’t read this, click here☞”? I wonder what it says? As for adult drinks… there’s no Hoppy, my favorite drink. Should I get “Japanese sake (1 go)” and “fried rice” here? Kishibe Ittoku. While I wait, I watch the inside of the store.

It’s a bit cluttered after all. The handmade “anti-droplet goods” are a remnant of the coronavirus. It’s cluttered, but once you get used to it, it’s pretty nice, it feels like home, right? I just noticed that there’s a “Haruka Igawa poster” in the back, so the chef must really “like” it? And then, the sake arrived…

It’s fine, it’s fine… I accidentally took two pictures from different angles… Gulp! A true second-class sake. It really hits home for a self-proclaimed Joshu resident… Next comes the fried rice?

Hoho… a three-item set of fried rice, poo-soup, and Chinese sausage. I told you that you can’t have three of them… right? Gulp! You should moisten your esophagus before eating the fried rice, right?

The fried rice is not light and fluffy, but a little oily. It’s boring to have something bland and “unscented and non-oily”, right? Gulp! With sake… it’s a “surprisingly exciting” pairing, and it’s a great success, there’s no way they wouldn’t go together, because they’re both made from “rice”, right? In other words, fried rice and sake have the same ancestor, isn’t that moving? The East and West were connected through the Silk Road… an encounter with the past, here in Maebashi… But this “meat” is delicious, like braised pork…
It was delicious, but a little too heavy for a middle-aged (nice middle-aged) Drunk Uncle like me, maybe even too heavy. Needless to say, I had a heavy stomach the next day…
After a bit of drinking, I paid the bill and left the bar. The last train was approaching, so I guess it’s time to head back to house…
